Meet the Team

Scott and Nina Bonner

After university, Scott left his home town of Victoria, BC and spent several years travelling and working in northern Canada, much of it in remote communities. He then took a year to travel around the world and returned to initially settle in northern BC. After running a health care agency for a dozen years, he became restless again, left his job, and returned to university.

Born in Singapore, Nina immigrated to Canada as a child, and grew up in northern communities. After her travels in Asia Pacific she returned to Canada to take a job as a guide for a large US tour company. Nina worked there for six years, travelling throughout North America while leading tour groups. She then relocated to Yukon Territory, where she worked in the hospitality industry for several years.

Good fortune smiled on Scott and Nina when they met at the University of Victoria and decided to build Midnight Sun Travel. As Nina says: “I always knew that, when Scott asked me to go into business, he was really proposing marriage.” They set up Midnight Sun in 1995 and were married in 1999. In 2001 they purchased and renovated Alert Bay Lodge, a remote inn off northern Vancouver Island. They launched Vancouver Island Kayak in 2003.

Their accomplishments didn’t stop there: in 2005 their daughter, Kaelyn was born. Scott, Nina, Kaelyn and their German shepherd live in Victoria, BC.
